Nov. ballot laden with important initiatives

On Nov. 8, Mississippians will vote on three hot-button initiatives that could mean major changes to the state’s Constitution.

The initiatives include:

— Eminent domain: Should government be prohibited from taking private property by eminent domain and then transferring it to other persons?

— Definition of “person”: Should the term “person” be defined to include every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning or the equivalent thereof?

— Voter identification: Should the Mississippi constitution be amended to require a person to submit government-issued photo identification in order to vote?

By law, the Mississippi secretary of state is required to host five public forums to inform voters and give them an opportunity to speak on the initiatives.
