Snowden on Mississippi Budget Recovery
Rep. Greg Snowden talked about budget issues at Monday’s meeting of the Council of Governments in Meridian.
Snowden says the current state budget is about $350 million lower than it was four years ago. And he said that’s probably not going to change soon.
“We’ve had a tremendous economic downturn,” said Snowden. “We’ve put together a budget that’s prudent, and that’s within our means. But the brutal fact is that we’re still several million dollars short. In fact, hundreds of millions of dollars short, of where we otherwise would have expected to be.”
Snowden says we are beginning to see some relief in the budget, but it will probably be 2016 before the budget gets back to 2008 levels.
