Huntsman Aims for Daniels, Barbour Supporters
Jon Huntsman is moving quickly to lap up support from the networks of Haley Barbour and Mitch Daniels, who have chosen not to run for president in 2012.
Already, students at Yale who formed a draft movement to get Daniels into the race have been in contact with the Huntsman campaign. The students are eyeing Huntsman as the vehicle to keep their mission of debt reduction alive, and the Huntsman team has been more than happy to educate them about the former Utah governor.
Veterans of both Bush administrations have been closely watching Daniels and may have had an interest in supporting him had he run. On Monday, George H.W. Bush and wife Barbara Bush will host the Huntsmans for lunch at their home in Kennebunkport, Maine.
With Daniels out of the way, Huntsman is likely to have a wider audience. And as he seeks to become the alternative to Mitt Romney in the Republican contest, he will court another governor who doesn’t seem to like Romney: Rick Perry.
