Cabins at Neshoba fairgrounds burn
Firefighters are attempting to put out fires in more than a dozen cabins at the Neshoba County Fair.
Fairview Volunteer Fire Department first responded to the blaze, and other area fire departments have since responded, including the Philadelphia Fire Department. “We’ve got an engine and a rescue unit out there,” said Ron Sparnecht, battalion chief for the department. No injuries have been reported so far. The fair, which refers to itself as “Mississippi’s Giant Houseparty,” has been a tradition in Neshoba County since 1889. There is no word yet on what effect the blaze might have on this year’s fair, slated for July 22-29.
