IT’S GOING TO BOEING: EADS loses $35B refueling-tanker contract
GULFPORT — The planned celebration turned to silence in Gulfport on Thursday afternoon when the $35 billion tanker contract was awarded to the Boeing Co.
South Mississippi leaders were hopeful the winner would be the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co., which planned to build the tankers in Mobile.
The 25 local officials who gathered at the Robert J. Curry Public Safety Center quickly and quietly left the room after seeing the announcement on the Pentagon Channel. Similar gatherings were held in Mobile, Pensacola and New Orleans.
