Mississippi political leaders address business leaders at Hobnob
Republican state officials, speaking to a group of business leaders and others in Jackson today, have agreed that there should be no new taxes to help offset Mississippi’s shrinking budget for the coming fiscal year.
“I’m against raising anybody’s taxes,” Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said, hitting on one of the key themes stressed at the Mississippi Economic Council’s annual Hobnob event.
Gov. Haley Barbour, usually the final political speaker at Hobnob, was not in attendance but sent a video message also touching on the “no taxes” message.
“We’re not going to have a tax increase,” he said.
While Barbour is term-limited and cannot seek another term in Mississippi’s state-wide elections next year, several of the key speakers are expected to run for office.
