Jackson lawyer clears hurdle

The Senate Judiciary Committee on a voice vote Thursday approved the nomination of Jackson lawyer Carlton Reeves, of Jackson, to the federal bench.

His nomination to the U.S. District Court judge for the Southern District of Mississippi now goes to the full Senate and with the backing of the state’s two U.S. senators.
At his confirmation hearing in July, Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker, both Republicans, introduced Reeves and recommended his confirmation by the Senate.
“I am pleased to see Carlton Reeves’ nomination move forward and hope the full Senate will soon consider his confirmation,” Cochran said in a statement.
Added Wicker: “Mr. Reeves is well-respected among his peers and community, and his expertise will be valuable to the federal bench.”
