SOUTHAVEN – Recognizing partisan infighting, which some say ultimately caused the election of Democratic rival Travis Childers, the three major Republican Party candidates running for Congress pledged to support the GOP victor of the June 1 primary.
Childers was elected following a bruising fight between Republicans in the 2008 congressional race.
Former FOX political analyst Angela McGlowan of Oxford, Sen. Alan Nunnelee of Tupelo and former Eupora mayor and Bush Justice Department official Henry Ross debated the issues in a friendly forum at Southern Baptist Educational Center Saturday.
The turnout was dampened by storms which swirled through the area but the topics and exchanges were lively.
“The road to putting America back in the right direction goes through North Mississippi,” Sen. Alan Nunnelee, R-Tupelo, said. “America is headed in the wrong direction.” Nunnelee said President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have “unleashed a liberal agenda that Bill Clinton wouldn’t have even attempted.”
