BRYANT: PERSONHOOD INITIATIVE CERTIFIED TO BE PLACED ON 2011 BALLOT

JACKSON – Pleased with the announcement of the Personhood campaign receiving the required number of certified signatures to place the initiative on the 2011 ballot, Lt. Governor Phil Bryant issued the following statement.

“Today is a great day for the protection of innocent human life,” said Lt. Governor Phil Bryant. “Placing the initiative on the 2011 ballot will help end the practice of abortion in Mississippi. This was a grass roots effort by churches and citizens who understood that nothing is as important as protecting the unborn. I want to personally thank Les Riley and all of those members of Personhood who worked so tirelessly.”

Placing an initiative on the ballot requires a minimum of 89,285 signatures, with at least 17,857 coming from each of the old five congressional districts that existed in the year 2000. Personhood collected 106,325 total signatures with the Secretary of State’s Office certifying each one.
