BRUMFIELD – E-mail confirms U.S. attorneyJim Greenlee retirement imminent

E-mail confirms U.S. attorney’s retirement imminent

OXFORD – An e-mail titled “Jim Greenlee Retirement Reception” confirms the Republican-appointed U.S. attorney will leave his post soon.

The message apparently was sent at 3 p.m. Friday by Gina Phillips Kilgore, chief deputy for operations at the U.S. District Court in Oxford. A copy was sent to the Daily Journal by someone else.

“Bill Martin asked that we spread the word to everyone in the clerks office,” the message reads.

Martin, an attorney who handles civil cases for Greenlee, reportedly will be the office’s interim chief until President Obama’s nominee is confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Friday, the U.S. Justice Department declined to discuss the status of that process.
