Energy security hearing with Rep. Brian Alderidge Thursday

REPRESENTATIVE BRIAN ALDRIDGE TO HOST ENERGY SECURITY HEARING

Who: Advance Mississippi, SmartSync and Representative Brian Aldridge (R-Tupelo)

Glenn McCullough Jr. (Advance Mississippi) will discuss alternative energy resources which can help fuel economic opportunity in Mississippi and what the Legislature can do to assist. He will also give an overview of Mississippi’s current energy portfolio, such as lignite coal and nuclear power.

Stephen Johnston (CEO SmartSync) will present ways the Mississippi Legislature can encourage the use and development of smart grid technology and how it can encourage economic growth in the state.

What: Energy Security Hearing

When: Thursday, October 22; 10:00 a.m.

Where: Jackson, Mississippi; State Capital Room 113

Why: Quote from Rep. Brian Aldridge:

“If Mississippi is to grow its economy and compete for jobs for tomorrow’s generation, we must provide companies and Mississippians with reliable, clean and affordable energy resources. The focus of Thursday’s Energy Security Hearing is to explore new and creative ways Mississippi can generate and transmit electricity, to encourage economic development. In the next 20 years, the United States could witness a 30% increase in demand for electricity. Mississippi is not immune from these possible burdens. Our average increase in electricity consumption (2.6%) was slightly higher than the rest of the country (2.1%). We must begin now, to meet these challenges. In Mississippi we are blessed with an abundance of energy resources, such as lignite coal and our nuclear capabilities.”
