GWC – Barbour knows how to hide donors
Even if the timing of the donations looks suspicious, the Louisiana Democrats will have a hard time proving that Barbour’s political action committee was illegally acting as a pass-through.
Winning a Federal Elections Commission complaint, though, may not be their main objective anyway. More likely, airing the allegation has done what they hoped to accomplish. It provided them another opportunity to play up Republican Sen. David Vitter’s link to a Washington, D.C., prostitution ring in 2007 — a political jab worth much more than the relatively modest contribution the senator received.
Vitter is just one in a series of “family values” Republicans who have been tripped up in recent years by their extra-marital dalliances.
Mississippi’s Chip Pickering, the third figure in this alleged campaign finance shell game, is another.
