Stanford investors decry secrecy

Three years ago, Brookhaven resident Travis Bedsole took early retirement and invested his money with Stanford Financial Group.

Early in 2008, he moved about half of the money into certificates of deposit. That money is now gone.

The Brookhaven man now believes the federal government already was investigating Allen Stanford when he moved $400,000.

The 63-year-old cancer survivor who had planned to spend his retirement relaxing is now considering returning to work.

Bedsole and about 20 others testified at a hearing convened by Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann at the state Capitol on Monday. Hosemann said the federal government should have told the state Stanford was under investigation.
