AP Analysis: Coast fielding statewide hopefuls in ’11
The Gulf Coast has demanded plenty of attention since it was walloped by Hurricane Katrina four years ago, and it’s poised to have a significant political presence in Mississippi’s 2011 statewide elections.
Businessman Dave Dennis of Pass Christian has already formed a political action committee and started hiring staff to run for governor. State Sen. Billy Hewes III of Gulfport is campaigning for lieutenant governor. Public Service Commissioner Steve Simpson, a former circuit judge from Gulfport, says he’s considering a run for attorney general.
Dennis, Hewes and Simpson are all Republicans.
