Wright gets probation, says he’s happy it’s over
Marcus Wright, former bodyguard to former Jackson Mayor Frank Melton, was sentenced in federal court this morning to a year of probation and ordered to pay a $500 fine.
Wright pleaded guilty last October to a misdemeanor charge for his role in an Aug. 26, 2006, warrantless raid on a suspected drug house on Ridgeway Street in the Virden Addition neighborhood. As part of his plea deal, Wright agreed to assist in the prosecution of Melton and fellow former bodyguard Michael Recio.
“I feel good. I’m glad it’s over,” Wright said as he left the courtroom. “I’m just ready to get my life started over again.”
