Desoto Times – Billy Hewes to run for Lt. Governor
SOUTHAVEN – Gulf Coast lawmaker Billy Hewes talked about his future candidacy for Mississippi Lieutenant Governor during a roundtable discussion in Southaven Thursday.
Hewes said although he hails from the geographic opposite of DeSoto County, the top and bottom halves of the state share common interests and goals.
“Although we are worlds apart, we have a lot in common,” Hewes said. “Y’all are a great economic engine. I’ve always found the squeaky wheel gets the grease.”
Hewes, who has served in the Mississippi Legislature since 1992, is president pro tempore of the Mississippi Senate and chair of the Senate Rules Committeee. Hewes also serves on the Elections, Ethics and Finance committees. An avid musician, Hewes was recently appointed to the Mississippi Blues Commission.
