Gulfport attorney chastised, but keeps salary

The City Council tied 3-3 on a vote to eliminate all or part of the city attorney’s salary for calling Council President Ella Holmes-Hines disparaging names, then claiming he was misquoted.

Holmes-Hines put the motion on the agenda. She said many residents in the audience had come to show support. Several implored the council to act. City Attorney Jeff Bruni apologized to Holmes-Hines and the council.

In a recent interview with the Sun Herald he’d called her “an idiot and a bald-faced liar.”

After the Sun Herald quoted his comments, Bruni demanded a retraction, but a tape recording confirmed the remarks.
