College Board approves Jones unanimously
A comparison between outgoing Ole Miss Chancellor Robert Khayat and his successor, Dr. Dan Jones, came up countless times during campus interview sessions on Monday.
Each time, Jones warned, “I’m no Robert Khayat. I’m not gonna try to be Robert Khayat. (Khayat)’s got this great charm that I don’t have.”
But Jones has what the University of Mississippi needs, said Khayat, who is retiring at the end of June. The former Ole Miss football player who went on to play in the NFL acknowledges Ole Miss doesn’t need a clone.
“(Jones) brings strengths to this office that I don’t have,” he said. “I think it’s a perfect transition; I can’t imagine a better choice.”
Jones, 60, was named the new chancellor following a unanimous vote by the state College Board.
