Sylvia Minor died of brain cancer Monday
The wife of imprisoned former Mississippi attorney Paul Minor has died.
Minor, who is serving an 11-year sentence in a federal prison camp in Florida after his March 2007 conviction of bribing two judges, was denied an emergency request Thursday to be released so he could be with his dying wife.
Minor had asked the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to throw out the conviction, claiming the trial judge allowed improper jury instructions. And while the court considers that appeal, Minor wanted to be released on bond so he could be with his wife, Sylvia, who had brain cancer. The Minors had been married for 41 years.
Paul Minor’s father, noted retired journalist Bill Minor of Jackson, said they received the news earlier today that Sylvia Minor had passed away in a Louisiana hospice.
