The state Department of Finance and Administration will have a new executive director when Hoopy Stringer retires this month.
Gov. Haley Barbour announced Monday his appointment of Kevin Upchurch, secretary of the state Senate, to the post.
Stringer has served as head of DFA and the state’s fiscal officer since 2004.
“After more than 46 years of public service, including 30 years active duty military, the time has come to move to the next phase of my life,” Stringer said in a written statement. “It has been an honor to serve my country and my state.”
Prior to his appointment to DFA, Stringer served as executive director of the State Personnel Board.
