Barbour: Miss. rainy day fund won’t be drained

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 1, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 10/30/8

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour has reiterated his goal for state agencies to trim spending this year.

In addressing hundreds of people at the Mississippi Economic Council’s Hobnob event this afternoon, Barbour said that despite lagging revenues, the state’s nearly $370 million rainy day fund will not be drained during the upcoming Legislative session.

Barbour said the state will react to the shortfalls through a combination of reductions in spending and “appropriate use” of rainy day dollars.

No area of funding will be immune from cuts, even education, he said.
