Melton’s Attorney Asks Court To Exclude AG’s Warning

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 30, 2008

WAPT, 10/29/8

The attorney for Jackson Mayor Frank Melton filed a motion in U.S. District court this week asking the court to exclude warnings to the mayor made by the attorney general and Jackson police officers.

Melton is to stand trial Nov. 12 on federal civil rights violation charges. Melton and his bodyguards Michael Recio and Marcus Wright were indicted in July on charges related to their participation in an Aug. 26, 2006, raid on a Ridgeway Street duplex. Wright pleaded guilty to misdemeanor conspiracy charges earlier month and will cooperate with federal prosecutors.

Melton and Recio are accused of violating the constitutional rights of the duplex owner and tenant to be free of unreasonable search and seizure.
