Despite intense pressure from physician groups and Democrats, Mississippi’s senators stood with many of their Republican colleagues Wednesday in a failed bid to block a Medicare bill that would restore payment cuts to doctors.
Sens. Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker voted with 30 other Republicans who wanted to block the legislation. But Democrats won enough votes to move the bill forward.
Earlier this month, Democrats failed to win the 60 votes needed to advance the bill.
