No matter who wins, state clout diminished

By: Magnolia Tribune - May 5, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger Editorial, 5/4/8

The denial of federal aid in the wake of the recent tornado damage might have surprised Mississippians who are used to getting snap-to attention from the federal government.

We have gotten a little spoiled throughout the years. The political clout of our congressional delegation usually puts the burden of proof seemingly more on the federal agencies than the state.

Feeling ignored? Get used to it. That clout is quickly fading.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has its rules. I am not advocating special treatment or saying FEMA did anything wrong. But things are different.

Our political clout is waning.
