Turnout for Nov. 6 election lowest in several years

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 14, 2007

The Commercial Dispatch, 11/13/7

Turnout for last week’s elections appears to be the lowest in several years.

About 715,600 people voted statewide for governor, according to the preliminary election results reported by The Associated Press from the 1,899 precincts in Mississippi’s 82 counties.

The official tally won’t be known until after Friday, when counties are required to certify their vote counts and report them to the secretary of state.

If the preliminary count held true, it would be the lowest since 1991, when 711,212 people voted.
