Hilary Clinton calls Trent Lott to apologize about Mississippi remark

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 26, 2007

The Sun Herald, 10/25/7

Another Mississippi insult? Not on U.S. Sen. Trent Lott’s watch.

“Sen. Clinton called Sen. Lott to apologize and say she never meant to offend the state in any way,” said Youngblood. “He understands how things can come out in a way that a person doesn’t intend.”

Lott made the point that two Mississippi lieutenant governors have been women and that the Senate just confirmed Judge Sharion Aycock to be the first female district judge for the Northern District of Mississippi. Youngblood said that Lott appreciated Clinton’s call and her sincerity.
