South Mississippi businesses, community leaders help kick off legislative session

By: Frank Corder - January 3, 2023

The annual Gulf Coast Legislative Reception brings coastal flare to the capital city.

The Gulf Coast Legislative Reception brings together Coast business and community leaders, state officials, and lawmakers as the Mississippi Legislature gavels back into session each year.

This year’s annual gathering is set for Wednesday, January 4th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson.

It is hosted by the “One Coast Communities,” a regional initiative that focuses on the common interests among Mississippi Coast communities, noting that those commonalities far outweigh their differences while believing that what benefits one, ultimately benefits all.

The legislative celebration is one of the premier events on the annual legislative calendar because it features some of the best Coast cuisine and beverages South Mississippi has to offer. Attendees are often treated to gumbo, boiled shrimp, jambalaya, sushi and much more tasty Coast creations that surely delight the taste buds.

Those gathered at the event mingle, shake hands, and share policy priorities in a relaxed setting that brings the Coast Mardi Gras season to the Capitol.
