Representative of District 66, Jarvis Dortch, announced his resignation from the Mississippi House of Representatives on July 2, 2020.
This is a really hard post to make but I look forward to the next chapter in my career. Yesterday was my final day serving in the Mississippi House of Representatives https://t.co/UK2zZSC0pu

In a letter delivered to Speaker Philip Gunn, Dortch thanked him for his leadership and spoke highly of the opportunity to serve as a Representative. He said he regrets he could not complete his four year term due to the next chapter in his career.
Shortly after his announcement, a press release from the ACLU was issued, congratulating Dortch on his new appointment as new Executive Director for Mississippi.
“As a member of the Mississippi legislature, I saw firsthand that our democracy and voting rights are under assault,” said Dortch. “I considered it a great privilege to serve in the legislature and represent all Mississippians, especially our underserved. However, there are other avenues to not only protect our democracy but to further extend voting rights and government openness. I cannot think of a better opportunity than working to promote ACLU’s goals in Mississippi.”
Dortch began serving in the House in 2016. He served on the Insurance, Judiciary A, Public Health, Youth and family services committees.
Representative Dortch was born February 5, 1981 in Jackson, Mississippi and is married to the former Stephanie Robinson.
