WJTV – Mississippi governor candidates set for statewide debate
WTVA – Two candidates for governor agree to second debate
The two major-party nominees for Mississippi governor have agreed to a second debate.
Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood said Monday that he has accepted an invitation for Oct. 14 at WCBI in Columbus. Republican Tate Reeves accepted the invitation last month.
That debate in Columbus happens four days after their first one, which is set for Thursday on the University of Southern Mississippi campus in Hattiesburg. It’s being produced by WJTV/WHLT-TV and will air locally at 7 pm on WTVA.
Hood jabs at Reeves over second debate
Since Tate Reeves declined to even respond to two debate invites, I’m not sure he expected me to accept WCBI’s debate next Monday. We’ll be there. What’s important is that Mississippians across the state have a chance to hear about the issues. #msgov

WDAM – Election lawsuit questions Mississippi Constitutional provision ahead of general election
A group of Mississippians will have their election lawsuit heard in federal court this week. Their argument surrounds a provision in the state Constitution that dictates how we choose governors and statewide elected officials.
In question is a system that says a candidate has to win both a majority of the popular vote and a majority of the 122 House Districts. If both aren’t met, the Mississippi House decides a winner, something the plaintiffs says violates voters’ constitutional rights.
“It really flies in the face of the one person one vote rule, because if you don’t agree with other people in your statewide district then your vote should still count,” said Mississippi Center for Justice Advocacy Director Beth Orlansky.
