Trump to hold fundraiser for Hyde-Smith & Wicker prior to #MAGA rally in Southaven

By: Sarah Ulmer - September 26, 2018

President Donald Trump is scheduled to appear in Mississippi on October 2 in Southaven at the Landers Center. The rally is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and tickets are free and available but on a first come first serve basis.

The President will be holding a private fundraising for Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith just prior to the MAGA rally as announced yesterday on Twitter.

President Trump has endorsed both Senator Wicker and Senator Hyde-Smith for their respective U.S. Senate races. He has not shown support for Republican candidate Chris McDaniel in this year’s race.

However, that doesn’t mean McDaniel or his supporters won’t be in attendance at the rally. McDaniel took to Facebook within minutes of the announcement to urge his supporters to go to a Trump rally designed to support his opponent, Cindy Hyde-Smith.

There is a wide range of posts by McDaniel supporters trying to pack the rally to show the President who they believe should have received the endorsement.

McDaniel has been pushing for Hyde-Smith to agree to a debate for weeks now. One is scheduled at Millsaps in Jackson for October 4th, but only McDaniel, Espy, and Tobey Bartee have confirmed attendance.

Hyde-Smith has continued to say that she will attend a debate only if her legislative responsibilities in Washington allow her to.  At present, it appears that the Senate may well be voting to confirm Brett Kavanaugh that week.
