Vice President Mike Pence serves Thanksgiving dinner to sailors, Marines in Meridian
Pence, who was accompanied by wife Karen and daughters Charlotte and Audrey, repeated the warm wishes to each service member making their way through the dining hall. The couple’s son Michael, a first lieutenant who is training to be a fighter pilot, is currently stationed at the base.
In some ways, Pence’s appearance had an undercurrent of irony.
For some families, Thanksgiving has become a tradition of a Bacchanalian feast and sparring with relatives over politics at the dinner table.
But despite having one of the most politically powerful figures in the country present, the Roy M. Wheat dining galley was about as non-political as you could get.
