‘Changing the culture:’ A look at Toby Barker’s first 4 months as Hattiesburg’s mayor
Barker is working on building better relations between City Hall and council members, saying they all have a common goal to make Hattiesburg better, but are coming from differing perspectives.
“We have five people who love Hattiesburg and love their wards,” he said. “They are in it for the right reasons. They all bring value to the process, even when we disagree.
“We want to make sure that we never, ever demonize someone because we disagree. There are always going to be issues when there are differing points of view, particularly at this point in our country, at this moment in history, Hattiesburg is setting the tone with civility and cooperation.”
