Wright: MDE conducting its own probe into its contracts

Superintendent of Education Carey Wright says her agency is conducting its own probe into questions raised by the state auditor and a legislative watchdog agency about millions of dollars in education contracts and spending.

“We’re trying to be as open and honest and transparent as we can about all of this,” Wright said Monday, speaking to the Stennis Institute of Government’s Capitol Press Corps luncheon. Wright didn’t answer questions about specifics, saying, “I don’t want to get ahead of myself,” but said the Mississippi Department of Education has already made changes and hired new people to address many of the issues recent reports raised.
