Legislature most likely can revisit sports betting before U.S. Supreme Court ruling
“If the reports are true that our laws would legalize sports betting/bookmaking in Mississippi upon a reversal of federal law, I believe we in the Legislature have an obligation to seriously consider the public policy implications and risks,” said House Judiciary B Chair Andy Gipson, R-Braxton, viewed as a stanch social conservative. “I would certainly expect we would do that during the 2018 regular session.”
Various reports indicate that legislation passed during the 2017 session legalizing and regulating fantasy sports games also legalized sports betting at casinos.
Of course, the portion of the law allowing sports betting at casinos would not go into effect unless the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the federal law.
