RELEASE

Palazzo Welcomes New Coast Guard Ship to Pascagoula

Pascagoula, MS – Congressman Steven Palazzo (MS-04) today welcomed to Pascagoula the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Benjamin Dailey at a commissioning ceremony held at Singing River Island.

“I can think of no better day than Independence Day to welcome a brand new Coast Guard Fast Response Cutter to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The men and women that will serve aboard this ship will perform our nation’s number one mission: the protection of the United States homeland. I know they will do it well.”

Constructed by Bollinger Shipyards in Louisiana, the USCGC Benjamin Dailey is the first of two brand new Fast Response Cutters that will be home-ported in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The ships replace a 50-year-old legacy cutter that is moving to Pensacola, Florida.

The Dailey is the 23rd in the Coast Guard’s Sentinel-class FRC program and will perform CG missions throughout the Gulf of Mexico.
