Commissioner Mike Chaney Meets with Congressional Delegation

State insurance regulators traveled to Washington to discuss insurance issues

Jackson, MS — Commissioner of Insurance Mike Chaney joined more than 40 members of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) to discuss insurance issues with members of Congress. Topics discussed included health reform, National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) reauthorization, financial regulatory reform and abuses by air ambulance companies.

“I am thankful to have strong support from our senate and congressional delegation. We communicate often but meeting with them in Washington is important while they are here fighting so hard for Mississippians,” said Chaney. “The core focus of my job is to protect consumers and maintain strong insurance markets. To do that effectively state insurance regulators need support from our members of Congress.”

Chief state insurance regulators and senior staff from across the country gathered in Washington this week for the 2017 All Commissioner DC Fly-In. NAIC members spent two days meeting with their congressional representatives highlighting the NAIC’s legislative agenda, discussing the impact of federal policies in the states and briefing lawmakers on international regulatory developments in insurance.

Before meeting their congressional delegations, the regulators were briefed by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, Senator Lamar Alexander (TN) and Senator Mike Crapo (ID). Justin Clark, Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Doug Hoelscher, Assistant Director for the Office of Governmental Affairs for the White House also met with the regulators.
