BOBBY HARRISON: Trump not forced on religious conservatives; they chose him
As Kumar said, they had to vote for “the lesser of two evils.”
That argument is understandable as far as it goes.
But the fact of the matter is that religious conservatives did have a choice.
When they went to the polls earlier this year for primary elections – in both Kumar’s Tennessee and here in Mississippi – religious conservatives had a choice. There were candidates in the Republican primary who said they opposed abortion, thought the Supreme Court went too far in legalizing same-sex marriage and did not possess all the personal flaws that enveloped Trump.
But it is apparent from looking at election results that religious conservatives, evangelicals, voted for Trump over those candidates.
