Mississippi’s corporate income tax collections are up for the first quarter of fiscal 2017.
“Let me say that again, corporate income taxes are up …” Gov. Phil Bryant said at least a couple of times last week, in a Supertalk radio interview with Paul Gallo and again at the annual business Hobnob at the Mississippi Coliseum….
…A mea culpa: I agree corporate income tax cuts enacted to date have probably had only a minor impact on the budget. And I agree that across-the-board, prudent corporate income tax cuts will, in the long run, help the state’s economy.
The thing is, though, state leaders haven’t enacted many across-the-board corporate income tax cuts (although a large corporate franchise tax cut is pending to start 2018).
