Campaign spending in MSSC race between Griffis, Kitchens pushing $1 million

By: Magnolia Tribune - October 19, 2016

Spending could top $1M in Mississippi Supreme Court race

The Mississippi Supreme Court race between incumbent Jim Kitchens and Court of Appeals Judge Kenny Griffis hasn’t generated the nastiness of some prior high court races, but the two candidates combined could still spend more than $1 million on the race.

Campaign finance reports released last week by the Mississippi secretary of state showed Kitchens had raised $466,638 and spent $420,705. Griffis has raised $399,952 and spent $242,042.

Kitchens has a mix of contributors, but the largest number appear to be attorneys. Griffis also has contributions from lawyers and a high number of contributions from physicians and business people, according to information on their campaign finance reports.
