GEOFF PENDER: MAEP formula: We hardly knew ye
After malingering for years, Mississippi’s education funding formula law is about to die. It appeared to get better about a decade ago, but it had a relapse and Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and Speaker Philip Gunn last week put it in hospice.
It will likely be survived by some sort of equity funding component to help schools in poor areas and prevent constitutional equal-protection lawsuits — in whatever the GOP leadership comes up with to replace it.
