Gibbs, Green in runoff for Mississippi House District 72
Debra Gibbs and Synarus Green advanced from a field of four candidates in Tuesday’s special election in parts of Hinds and Madison counties. The winner will fill more than three years of a four-year term.
The special election was set after Democratic Rep. Kimberly Campbell of Jackson stepped down in May to become state director of AARP. She had been in the House since 2008. The winner will fill the final three years of her term.
Special-election candidates run without party labels, but Gibbs and Green are Democrats.
Unofficial results show Gibbs, an attorney, had 701 votes and Green, policy director for the city of Jackson, had 696.
