Bryant: Additional Funding Going to Foster-Care System
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant is telling social workers and others that his administration is committed to improving the troubled foster-care system.
The state is putting an additional $34 million into the system for the year that begins July 1. Lawmakers committed the money to avoid a federal court takeover because of a long-running lawsuit that said the state had done too little to protect foster children from abuse.
Bryant says salaries for social workers will increase and new workers will be hired.
