Police chiefs critical of latest gun bill
The Mississippi Police Chiefs Association says House Bill 786, the Mississippi Church Protection Act, which would allow armed security in churches, will do away with a license to carry a concealed handgun in public and would put law enforcement and all Mississippians in harm’s way.
However, state Rep. Andy Gipson, R-Braxton, who filed the bill, said legislation is already in effect to allow a person to carry a concealed weapon without a permit. He said House Bill 786 only clarifies that a handgun can be carried in a sheath, belt holster, or shoulder holster as opposed to sticking it into a pocket.
