Mixed reaction to appointed superintendents bill among DeSoto state House members

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 16, 2016

Fate uncertain: Supt. bill goes to House

Of the seven state House lawmakers representing DeSoto County, at least one, Rep. Dana Criswell (R-Olive Branch) has come out supporting the proposal.

Criswell supports it because it would remove limits on where qualified candidates could come from….

…Rep. Robert Foster, R-Hernando, said he favors letting the people have a voice in selecting the superintendent…

…Rep. Bill Kinkade (R-Byhalia) said he has voted against appointed superintendents the last two times it has been considered. Kinkade said the bills were defeated in the past because it included a clause where a local referendum would have to be held.
