Sen. Cochran cosponsors Farm Credit centennial resolution

By: Magnolia Tribune - February 5, 2016

RELEASE:

COCHRAN COSPONSORS FARM CREDIT CENTENNIAL RESOLUTION

U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) this week cosponsored a resolution recognizing the 100th anniversary of the Farm Credit System, the network of independently-owned cooperatives dedicated to meeting the credit and financial needs of rural communities in Mississippi and around the country.

Cochran, a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, cosponsored the resolution as representatives from Southern AgCredit were in Washington for an annual Farm Credit Council meeting. Mississippians meeting with Cochran included (left to right in photo) Joe Hayman of Ridgeland, Bryan “Scott” Bell of Lena, Kevin Rhodes of Pelahatchie, and Brad Bean of Liberty.

Cochran is an original cosponsor of the bipartisan S.Res.349, which acknowledges the Farm Credit System‘s “role in the success of United States agriculture and economic vibrancy of rural communities” and its support for “the next generation of agriculture producers.” The Farm Credit System provides billions of dollars in loans annually to support agriculture producers and rural communities. It also provides financial support for organizations such as 4-H and FFA.

The state’s agriculture interests were also represented in the U.S. Capitol this week by members of the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation, whom Cochran also addressed. In addition, the Senator received a 2015 Legislator of the Year Award from the Agriculture Retailers Association.
