Funding, charter schools major 2016 education topics
Current House Education Chairman John Moore said lawmakers will look at the “structure of the funding formula,” but that there won’t necessarily be a rewrite.
“We’re going to look at it from all aspects. That does not mean there will be a rewrite of the formula itself, but the issue has been for several years the technical problems that should’ve been fixed previously, but we just didn’t do it,” Moore said….
…Reeves also said recently that the MAEP is due for a review. One area Reeves wants to look at is changing the funding baseline from schools performing at a C level to A and B levels, as measured by the education department’s accountability standards.
“On average, A and B school districts tend to spend more money on the instructional category and less on administration,” he said.
