DeSoto Co School Board considering new Superintendent salary, Kuykendall makes recommendation

Voters decided in August the person to succeed outgoing DeSoto County Superintendent of Education Milton Kuykendall as the top education official overseeing Mississippi’s largest school district….

…Dodd confirmed that Kuykendall made a recommendation to the Board of Education for a $185,000 salary for the new superintendent during budget deliberations in September….

…Superintendents’ salaries in comparable districts to DeSoto include the superintendent of the Tupelo City Schools, who is paid an annual salary of $223,800 with just 7,277 students; Jackson Public School District, with the state’s second-highest number of students and a student population of 29,062, makes $200,000 a year; the superintendent of the Clinton City School District, who commands $180,000 a year with only 4,954 students; Starkville City Schools Superintendent, $183,750, with 4,378 students; Hattiesburg with $165,000 a year and 4,519 students; and Corinth, $161,460 a year with 2,676 students.
