Democrat incumbent AG Jim Hood wins fourth term

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 4, 2015

Hood defeats Hurst, remains lone statewide elected Dem

“After the party on the other side threw everything but the kitchen sink at us, we came out ahead,” Hood told supporters Tuesday night. He noted his mother, who passed away in August, wanted him to run, and “Mom, we did it again.”

Hurst conceded, “Mississippians have spoken, and I love this state so I respect this decision. … I’ve never doubted the sincerity and love (Hood) has for our state. We just differed in our ideas on how to make it better.”

The Hood-Hurst battle was considered the most competitive — if not the only competitive — race of the general election for statewide candidates, with Hood and Hurst voicing largely differing views on the role of the state’s attorney general and what the focus of the office should be.
