Anti Initiative 42 mailer warns of school consolidation
On Monday, a leading Initiative 42 supporter, attorney Jim Keith, conceded in a public forum that a judge could make and enforce policy decisions such as school consolidation.
The mailers, sent by the Improve Mississippi Political Initiative Committee, warn voters that 42 “takes decision-making power away from parents and elected officials and puts all education policy and funding decisions in the hands of one Hinds County judge.” It warns this judge would be able to order consolidation of neighboring school districts, force the Legislature to cut other services such as “universities, community colleges, roads and health care.”
