Bill Minor film gets major ovation
Minor’s experience covering the civil rights movement in Mississippi is now chronicled in a documentary entitled “Eyes on Mississippi.”
Several hundred readers, writers, colleagues, family and admirers were on hand at a premier screening of the film at the The Gertrude C. Ford Academic Complex recital hall at Millsaps College on Sunday afternoon.
The hour-long documentary is the work of Ellen Ann Fentress of Greenwood, a freelance journalist who once worked for Minor in the late 70s when he edited The Capitol Reporter, a small alternative weekly.
“This is a story that needed to be told.” said Fentress. At 93 Minor is one of the oldest working journalists today. His work is syndicated in papers throughout the state. His voice commands respect, has lost none of its potency and still rattles the walls of power.
“When he writes today it’s not in a vacuum,” Fentress said. “It comes with a deep thread of his experience that goes back decades.”
